EAD’s Strategic Plan 2021–2025 comprises seven strategic priorities, supported by four enabling priorities. Below is our Priority 8 along with its sub-priorities:

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH
EAD participating in COP 26 as an agent of climate action

As part of the UAE delegation, EAD attended the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 26, also known as COP26. The delegation was headed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the UAE Climate Change Envoy Office. The EAD delegation was led by our SG, HE Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri. The COP26 took place in Glasgow, Scotland from 31 October to 12 November. As the custodian of climate action in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, EAD participated in different climate change areas of discussion including adaptation and methodological issues. On the last day of the event, it was announced that the UAE won the bid to host the upcoming COP28 in Abu Dhabi that will take place in November 2023.

EAD airs documentary highlighting Abu Dhabi fisheries at Expo 2020

 ‘Our Sea…Our Future’ documentary was shown as part of the EAD Inspiration Series at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Terra, Sustainability Pavilion in celebration of World Fisheries Day. The feature-length production showcases EAD’s success story of improving fish stocks in Abu Dhabi. The film also highlights the burden on Abu Dhabi’s fisheries and the initiatives undertaken by EAD to contain the impacts of overfishing on the marine environment, with the goal of regenerating and nurturing fish stocks.

EAD digital services available on TAMM

All EAD’s digital services are now available on the TAMM portal and app. TAMM is a one stop shop for all Abu Dhabi government services launched by the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, and it is designed to save time for the customers. The following are the EAD digital services available on the TAMM portal and app: Recreational and Commercial Fishing Licenses, Licenses for Aquaculture and Permits for Native Trees Plantation and Translocation, Environmental Licensing of Groundwater Wells Drilling and Use, Development and Infrastructure Projects, Industrial Facilities, the Registration of a Consultancy Office and the Commercial Establishments Licenses.

EAD launches a new series of podcasts

EAD’s Sustainable Campus Initiative, in partnership with Borouge launched the podcast series “Naturally Educated”. The first episode was about climate change, hosted by our colleague, Humaid Abdulla Kanji, Environmental Economist, IEPP. The podcasts are available in the Sustainable Campus Initiative website here.

EAD conducts the 2021 EAD Stakeholders event

The Planning and Performance Management Division organised a virtual forum for EAD’s strategic partners from governmental and non-governmental entities, where EAD’s new five-year strategy was presented.

A successful translocation of Scimitar-horned Oryx and Addax to Chad

EAD completed a successful mission to translocate 25 Scimitar-horned Oryx (SHO) and 25 Addax to Chad. There is now a total of 400 SHO and 65 Addax in the wild. Prior to EAD’s species conservation efforts, the number of Scimitar-horned Oryx in the wild and the number of Addax in Chad was zero. EAD has also successfully darted 18 SHO and fitted them with satellite tracking collars enabling close monitoring including survival and reproduction. One herd observed was 87 animals for the first time ever, and over 100 calves will be born in the wild this year. More animals will be translocated in February of 2022.

Al Dana Award for Excellence Evaluation takes place in the month of November  

During the month of November, PPM team along with certified assessors conducted the Al Dana evaluation meetings to all excellence criteria owners and sub-priority leaders. Additionally, participating individuals will be assessed in the beginning of December. The evaluation will help to identify the areas of strength and will advise on how to improve in case of gaps are found. Feedback and results will be shared in the first quarter of 2022, and the winners will be announced in the annual excellence award ceremony, scheduled to take place in the second quarter of 2022.

Grasses, Sedges and Rushes of the UAE book inspires fashion

EAD, in collaboration with Bayanah Brand, launched a new art collection called “From the Land To Which We Belong”, at Tryano stores in Yas Mall Abu Dhabi, in the presence of our SG HE Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, and HE Sheikha Marwa bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa. The collection includes a special assortment of Khaleeji handmade weaving, and environmentally friendly materials with embroidered drawings inspired by EAD’s book, “Grasses, Sedges and Rushes of the UAE”. Bayanah Brand designs incorporate 90% biodegradable materials such as cotton, wood, glass, natural crystals, and semi-precious stones.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group announces the winners of its 7th Annual Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Awards 2021

The winners of the 7th Annual Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Awards 2021 were announced by our SG HE Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri in an online ceremony that took place on 23 November organised by the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group. The annual event is a unique award and recognition scheme that is designed to celebrate sustainability best practices and to raise awareness about the benefits of sustainability management in the region. The winners were Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) awarded as the Best Sustainability Initiative Award, Dolphin Energy awarded as the Best Sustainability Report Award, Borouge- Sustainable Campus Initiative (SCI) awarded as the Best Sustainability Communication Programme Award, Sami Al Angari, Vice Chairman and CEO of Algihaz Holding, the winner of the Sustainability Leader of the Year Award was ADNOC Gas Processing awarded as the Best Energy Management Initiative Award – a category launched in partnership with the Energy Institute (EI) in the UK for their initiative on ‘Paradigm shift in Energy Management through Real time Optimization for Enhanced Profitability and Sustainability and our colleague, Winston Cowie from TBMS awarded as the Sustainability Manager of the Year.

PRC organises the first EAD Top Chef event

The EAD Top Chef event took place for the first time and nine Chefs along with their assistants participated. The Chefs demonstrated their cooking skills by live cooking a variety of delicious international dishes. A panel of judges including Khansa Al Blouki from EISOM, Sobhia El Masri from PRC and the Rotana Chef Maher Al Sawaf judged the food on 3 main elements, the taste, presentation, and organisation. The winner of the first EAD Top Chef 2021 was Mohamed Al Ali from TMBS, the second place winner was Majid Al Saadi from HR and the third place was Jamal AlZaidaneen from TMBS. EAD Staff supported their favourite Chef in person, via teams and via @eadfamily.

EAD celebrates UAE National Day– November 29

EAD celebrated the 50th UAE National Day in a special event that took place on Monday 29 November on the 2nd floor, at Al Hur meeting rooms. The event was organised by the Facility Management and Administration Division and included different activities, games, and competitions. National Day giveaways were distributed to staff on this special occasion.

This year’s theme is “Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity” highlights the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, fighting soil salinisation, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health.
