As part of the EAD 2021–2025 Strategy, there are 12 key success measures to be achieved by 2025. In every issue of the Insider, we will be highlighting two success measures:
Analytics and research:

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAD, the Agency launched the ‘Green Industries’ environmental labelling programme. The innovative programme is tailored based on best international practices in the field of eco-labelling while taking into consideration the nature of the industrial sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The programme aims to build mutually supportive partnerships to enhance and appreciate the contribution of industrial facilities in the field of environmental protection.
EAD led a high-profile tour of The National Aquarium attended by Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment and Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of EAD to celebrate Shark Week, held between 24th to 31st July. Also attending were, Ahmed Al Hashemi – Executive Director of the Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity Sector at EAD, alongside Alyazia Saeed Al Meheiri, Development Manager at Al Baraka Holding and other officials from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, EAD and National Aquarium. The delegation was able to see the diverse species of sharks that can be found at the National Aquarium and were provided with a general brief about the different species by an EAD expert
EAD announced recently that it was one of the winners of the Quality Choice Prize for the Gold Category from the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR). EAD was recognised for its quality management and the implementation of its long list of programmes through which it has several achievements in the field of environmental protection and species preservation at the local, regional and global levels. EAD is the first environmental institution in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive this prestigious international award, which is the highest award in the Excellence Model from the European Society for Quality Research..
EAD recently held a workshop in the presence of representative stakeholders from institutions and government agencies to consult on the Abu Dhabi Biodiversity Protection Policy. The workshop’s aim was to present the proposed policy and help contribute to organising and promoting the sustainable use of biodiversity resources. The longer-term goal is to preserve and develop Abu Dhabi’s natural and cultural heritage in line with the UAE’s General Environmental Policy issued in 2021.
As part of the Green Business Network initiative, EAD recently collaborated with AD Ports Group in launching its new ‘Clean Your Perimeter’ campaign. The initiative empowers industrial entities to adopt more sustainable waste management practices and minimise single-use plastics consumption. The ‘Clean your Perimeter’ campaign started this May and will last until December 2022. The objectives include educating industrial facilities and helping them increase their environmental awareness regarding the importance of keeping Abu Dhabi clean and engaging employees in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities such as Citizen Science clean-ups of nearby areas. This is in addition to supporting citizen science research on the volume of single-use plastics and other types of waste entering the environment.
The Human Resources Division held the first annual event that aims to engage with EAD employees, to hear from them and to communicate the main human resource messages and share updates.Al BARZA is an annual event that will take a place in all EAD locations (Al Dhafra, Al Marfa’a, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi).
IYD is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000.
The United Nations General Assembly formalized the day as World Humanitarian Day (WHD). Each year, WHD focuses on a theme, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises, and for the safety and security of aid workers.
