Priority 7:

Our Secretary General, Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri participated in a panel discussion at the Sustainability Pavilion, Expo 2020 during the World Majlis Climate Change Week. She stressed the importance of conserving biodiversity to help maintain the balance of natural ecosystems. She also highlighted how biodiversity is fundamental to the resilience of ecosystems and is the glue holding them together. When we lose biodiversity, we therefore disrupt the services that ecosystems supply to humanity.
EAD launched an innovative web portal and mobile application, Daleela, during the second day of the region’s largest event dedicated to the preservation of culture and heritage, the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) 2021.The objective of Daleela is to provide users with relevant information regarding the cultural and natural heritage behind placenames on the islands of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi has a rich heritage, that needs to be preserved for the current and future generations. To achieve this, relevant information regarding place names, has been compiled, and made accessible in one place for users, who wish to access it. The information displayed includes geographic coordinates, description of the sites along with photographs, videos and audio recordings. The information made available through Daleela showcases local values and cultural heritage as a testament to Abu Dhabi’s rich culture, and by accessing this information, users can have better understanding of the location, its history, landscape, and lifestyle of ancestors.
EAD organised a series of workshops as part of a government-wide Abu Dhabi State of Environment Dashboard Initiative that aimed to continuously enhance Abu Dhabi’s standing and credibility in international environmental rankings, in response to the aspirations of Abu Dhabi leadership with the support of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office. The outcomes from the workshops will be part of an environmental dashboard that will inform entities on their respective roles and responsibilities towards improving Abu Dhabi’s environment.

EAD participated in the18th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), hosted at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in October. EAD monitored one of the rare blue holes located in the waters of Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Al Dhafra Blue Hole is approximately 300 metres long and 200 metres wide, surrounding a total area (whole hole from top, not including the sand banks) of around 45 000 square metres. Preliminary analysis of the seabed area, forming the centre of the Al Dhafra Blue Hole, indicates a depressed, semi-circular area roughly around 5 000 square metres (this measurement is not the whole hole since the hole gets narrower as it goes down). The semi-circular area topography is flat with a maximum depth of 12 metres and has a bottom composition combination of silt and sand. This unique habitat holds at least 10 types of coral species, forming a reef at the edge of the hole. The blue hole is also home to many fish communities and provides shelter for a variety of fish such as Grouper, Sweetlips, Emperor Fish and Jackfish. The coral structure in the blue hole hosts several reef structures and dead coral remains, that is protected preserved from constant erosion that shows the sizes the older colonies have reached.

I am a cat lover and for me to be able to rescue and provide home to a little kitten is just an amazing feeling. It was a sunny morning, and I was getting ready to turn on my car so I could go to work, when suddenly, I heard a little noise in my engine. I was really wondering what it could be. I was afraid that it might be a problem in the engine, and I had no time since I was running late, so I got out of my car and I checked it. What a nice surprise! It was a beautiful kitten hiding inside my engine. I immediately hold it and took it inside my home. She is a female, beautiful, playful, and healthy kitten which I named Lucky because she was lucky to find a home and I was also lucky to find her.
